Running Bad

Two pair with a flush draw to a flopped straight.
Set of 9s on the flop to a set of Aces on the turn.
Boat on turn to straight flush on the river.
And, of course, playing too many hands in between
thinking that I gotta get lucky sometime.

If only there wasn't luck in poker...

But then, the fish wouldn't get false encouragement and hang around eh? :)

I wonder if pursuing multi-tabling might help. The downturns can be more brutal and come in a flood, but a winning player can grind their way out quicker also. i.e the 'long term' is not so long.

"Pursuing" multi-tabling would require a new skill set, similar to multi-tasking, something I am not good at, either because of genetics, too many drugs in my youth or some as-yet-to-be-popularized syndrome. And then, of course, there's that nasty little obstacle of a pathetically small bankroll. What, I should play .01/.02 with my buddy yakshi?

Maybe? I see guys playing 20+ tables of 25NL, buying in for $5 a throw then just preflop pushing with any Group 1 hand. Most of those guys are Gold/Platinum star and obviously making a dollar.

How big is your monitor? ;)

I hear what you're saying el Gump, but I don't think multi-tabling when you're running badly (as they say) is really a good idea. When things are rough for me, I just ride out the bumps, or take a short break. Just my two cents.

Theoretically, if one waited, short-stacked, for AK and above, and jammed every time, would that be +EV?

If you re-pop an opening raise, most at this level can't lay down their AQ, mid pairs etc that they opened with. The math is iffy depending on how tight the shortstacker is playing - some of them push with mid pairs and worse aces. I usually leave when there's too many at the table or one is directly behind me.

Opening pots is another story. What's the best raise amount with only 20BB? There's a whole other topic on having no implied odds and just playing a preflop jam game.

My point about playing more hands was just that if you're a winning player and getting your $ in good, but getting beats put on you...churning through more hands helps to push through the downturns quicker. It's a sample size thing....

Just to be clear, if you've got 20BB and you push on a big stack pf raiser, most times they don't fold. This is what the good ones exploit.

If you're the big stack raiser, it's a tough spot depending on the shortstackers ranges. Sometimes its correct to call, other times fold...other times you've got others still to act and its an ugly, ugly situation.

I forgot to mention this. I'm thoroughly enjoying the photos -- keep them coming!
