Blatz - Now you're talking! Loved that beer. Shaeffer's (sp?) was good too. High end back in the day was Carling's Black Label. All are still around, no?
In my beer/college days, the local ones I remember were Grain Belt, Hamm's ("the beer refreshing", Hamm's Bear ads), and Schmidt ("the brew that grew with the great northwest.") Grain Belt sure did smell like grain, no matter which direction it was moving. It went out of business, like the others, but is now brewed anew by the August Schell brewery in New Ulm, MN, the second oldest family brewery in the US, never closed, never sold in over 150 years.

Pabst is important to humanity. It is my fifth or sixth favorite beer. And that's saying something special about it.
Frank Booth: What kind of beer do you like to drink, neighbor?
Jeffrey Beaumont: Heineken.
Frank Booth: Heineken? F____ that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!
Booth was the late Dennis Hopper and you can't argue against him.
I always equate PBR with Thunderbird.
Thunderbird, that the word.
What's the price?
50 twice.
Now that's advertising! So, what'll ya have?
I'll take a PBR over an Old Style or Schlitz any day, but my taste for hallucinogens has diminished over the years.
I saw a big sale on PBR the other day at a local store. Time to get back to the classic brands.
