Let the sun

Another beautiful day, warmer still, and there is good news and bad news regarding the progress of the plantings. The tomato seeds I planted recently are starting to come up, which means that the eggplant, peppers and basil I planted well over a week ago didn’t make it. Fortunately, I have extra seeds for some of the plants, and they went into the soil today. The greenhouse was in the mid-80s today, so let the germination now begin!

I also planted a bunch of herbs today, but I left my list out in the barn, and I’m too tired to go fetch it. I can tell you that I transplanted 21 Greek Oregano plants from the field into 4-inch pots. The root structure was good, so I believe I will have success with the transplants. Oh, and much to my surprise, the Tarragon I transplanted the other day is looking good. I was gong to do the French Sorrel as well, but I ran out of trays. Instead, I took a road trip for more soil and trays. I bought 6 bags of soil, each containing 3.8 cu. ft. of soil. That ought to hold me for a while.

As I was getting ready to leave the house, I noticed the female part of our OCD neighbors mowing their lawn. When I came home, the male was on his tractor doing it again. The madness has begun. I had not yet mowed this year, and thought it might be a good idea to do it while the weather cooperated. When I mentioned this to the DW, she said, “Yes, please mow the lawn! Even the run down houses have mowed.” Well, I didn’t think ours was that bad quite yet, but I knew if I waited much longer, it would be impossible to collect the clippings, so off I went with the iPod at full volume.

Now that it is warming up and the ground is still very wet, the grass will grow fast enough that I will have to mow on a weekly basis until the end of June. I’m not a big fan of mowing, yet I do like to be outdoors, and we have so much to do. That means that I have to adjust my sleeping schedule, No more late night poker, I’m afraid. But that could be a good thing. Right?

Right? It is healthier, but poker late at night brings you obvious joy/misery/passion.
